Saints keep falling victim
Real Talk: Saints keep falling victim 2 teachings that say “this is the year of favor”, “this number is the number of ‘completion’, ‘new beginnings’, therefore sow your seed to gain favor.
Look, if these teachings are biblical they would not have to be retaught year after year.
If cats are gonna use OT scripture, please do so in CONTEXT of the ...

God is not your buddy!
In James Boice’s commentary on Psalm 97:25 he says:
This means that we must never take God lightly, as if he were nothing more than some great heavenly buddy or pal.
In fact, the common lightness of many in approaching God is not a sign of their close acquaintance with him, as they probably suppose, but of the fact that they hardly know God at all.
Those who know God approach him...

There are two bad choices.
“There are two popular choices, both bad. Popular evangelicalism wants the atonement to touch every last man, woman, and child. But in order to get it to do so, the touch is made ineffectual. On the other hand, pessimistic Calvinists want the touch to be potent and effectual… for a few hundred people. But we are called to preach an effectual cross, an efficacious cross which will...

A simple message
People want to convince sinners with Flash, Fireworks, Signs, Wonders .. but God uses the simple message of a Crucified and Risen Christ spoken by a feeble people who proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sin in Christ alone. This is the message by which the Holy Spirit saves sinners.

Tearful Exultation and Exaltation
ex·ul·ta·tion n.
- The act or condition of rejoicing greatly.
ex·al·ta·tion n. - A feeling of intense well-being or exhilaration; elation; rapture
In a coffee shop exulting over God’s word and exaltation for God burning in my chest with tears of gratefulness.
Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering…” (Gen 22:8) Oh how sweet these...

Desire for the Morrow
Let me, Oh Lord, on the morrow, rest below a shady tree and gaze in awe at your artful scene.
Bless me indeed to speak of your glories to that lovely one.
Oh Lord grant me grace to stand with strong knees and steady hands.
If not, Dear Lord, I’ll come undone.
What beauty to behold is she, so let me, dear Lord, in my admiration of her, honor thee.

Sweeter is ...
Sweeter is when two walk, better than one.
How much more enjoyable, then, is the burning of the sun.
Under the trees with the caressing breeze.
How sweeter is when two gather better than one
Sweet indeed when the two are under the influence of Christ The Son.
The Cross and Christian Ministry →
I read this book and have really enjoyed it. It speaks of Paul’s perspective on the Christian life from 1st Corinthians . It debunks some goofy interpretation of scriptures i.e. “all things to all men”. I highly recommend this book for a clearer perspective of how The Cross should be in view in our life and ministry.

good news for "Us" and "Them" ...
I’m still a bit bothered about Pat Robertson’s proclamation about Haiti. I cant help but feel that there is a bit of “us” (blessed America the so called, but not really Christian nation) and “them” (the wild savages of Haiti) mentality going on.
It would be good for us to restrict the “us” and “them” mentality to those who proclaim the...
praise amidst tragedy
Here is what some Haitians are singing in the midst of the disaster.
“It doesn’t mean anything if Satan hates me, because God loves me,” sing the women at Jeremy Square, their faces almost invisible in the darkness of this powerless, shattered downtown. “God has already paid my debt.”

if God sent judgement to Haiti...
This is in response to Pat Robertson’s remark that the earthquake in Hait is God’s judgement.
If the earthquake is God’s judgement, should not the US be judged as well ?
Yes many haitians are practioners of voodoo, but what about the good ol U. S. of A ?
Let’s see
400 years of enslavement and brutal, cruel, abonimable treatment of humans of African descent.

Self-Control according to Martin Luther
This is a commentary by Martin Luther.
2 Peter 1:6a and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness
“Temperance (self-control) does not apply only to eating and drinking, but it means moderation in all our being and in all our doing, in our words, works and manners, that we live not too expensively and avoid excess in ornaments and...

I’m in the top blogs now on Tumblr LOL… well now that I am I figured I would say something “unpopular”. As a black man, I grew up in the “black church”. Hammond B3’s, long skirts, white on 1st sunday, shoutin’ down the aisles etc… These things were all associated with church life growing up, and did absolutely nothing to save. A few years back God decided to rock the hell...

Humility / Meekness / Gentleness
I’m finding that its easier to preach on these things rather than actually live them.
Titus chapter 3 says:
3 For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of...
